Jimmy Thelin insists no-one at Pittodrie will be getting carried away after Aberdeen climbed into the upper half of the William Hill Premiership.
The Dons now sit sixth in the table following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Dundee at Dens Park.
The victory extended Aberdeen’s unbeaten run to eight matches but boss Thelin is adamant there is still much work to be done before his side are the finished article and he will continue to take things a game at a time.
The Swede said: “We have had some really tough away games and won them. It is not easy and it is not the perfect game but keeping the team spirit and harmony on the pitch is so important.
“I haven’t seen the table yet, but the season is so, so long with so many games.
“We also have the Scottish Cup and Europe so we have to take it game by game.
“The most important thing for us is that we get a little bit better every week.”
Thelin admitted his side are starting to click but he was reluctant to say it is all down to boosted confidence.
Thelin added: “We have scored six goals in the last two games and still been stable so we have to keep building, be humble and fight to improve all the time.
“I won’t talk so much about confidence but when we were not winning we had to focus on the things we could improve ourselves.
“Now when we have gone unbeaten for a number of games, we still have to work on the things we have to do.
“I want emotions to be stable in this process but you can see the team is growing.
“The rhythm is better, they find each other better and they trust each other better in some moments of the game.
“They can grow with that, if you want to call it confidence, then fine.”
Dundee’s defeat to the Dons saw them slip to second bottom of the table but boss Steven Pressley still saw plenty of positives.
The former Scotland defender said: “I think with the ball it was probably our best performance this season.
“We had close to 25 crosses. Our two wide players were exceptional in their performances. We controlled long periods of the game with the ball.
“We looked really confident and really assured. I’ve got no complaints about many, many aspects of our performance today.
“A couple of key moments cost us, but in general, it was a really, really positive performance.
“I know people look at the result, of course, and we want to win these games.
“But equally, I look at the things that we’ve been working towards, and they were really evident in our performance.”
