Kristers Tobers believes he will be ideally suited to Scottish football as he looked forward to life at Aberdeen.

The Latvia captain joined the Dons from Swiss Super League side Grasshopper Club Zurich this week for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old centre-back has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract and could go into Jimmy Thelin’s side for the William Hill Premiership game against Hearts at Pittodrie on Sunday.

Asked if coming to British football was always a desire, Tobers said: “Yes, it was always. Everybody was saying that it’s my type of style, how I play football.

“And then, of course, somehow in my head it always stuck that I want to be here, and then it’s a dream for me.

“I’ve always wanted to play in that kind of environment.

“And the people – how many people are going to the games, it’s amazing.

“You can see that everybody loves football here.”

Tobers believes he will bring energy to the Pittodrie side who are badly in need of a win.

The Dons have lost five league games in a row, are 10 matches without a win, and have slipped from second to fourth in the table.

He said: “What I want to bring is the energy, and from my side, I’m going to be loud on the pitch to help my team-mates communicate easier.

“I just want to help them to play easier. So, for example, our midfielders, so they know where the opponents are.

“So just to bring that energy and communication between the lines, so we are together in good moments and in the hard moments during the game.

“When I came here, the players were really good to me. They took me really well into the group. And everybody looks forward to the game.

“We want to change it together. I think that only one win is what we need to get back on the winning streak.

“For me as a defender and as a team, the most important thing is to win as many games as we can and to get as many clean sheets as we can.

“We need to take one game at a time. So, looking forward to Sunday and then we’ll see how it goes.”
