A new under-14s football tournament has been launched by Aberdeen FC in memory of former manager Craig Brown.
Brown, who died in June at the age of 82, managed the Premiership club between 2010 and 2013 in what would be his last job in professional football.
He also managed Scotland between 1993-2001 and remains the last coach to lead the men’s team to the World Cup after taking part in France 98.
Taking place at Cormack Park, the inaugural Craig Brown Memorial Trophy U14 Tournament will kick-off next month.
Aberdeen announced on Friday that the two-day event will take place on the weekend of Saturday October 14 and Sunday, October 15.
They say it will provide a platform for the club to recognise and pay tribute to the enduring impact of Brown who was a passionate advocate for youth football.
Aberdeen will come up against under-14 sides from Rangers, Dundee, Motherwell, Preston, Manchester United, Cliftonville and Bohemians, taking part in 11-a-side matches.
Brown started his playing career at Rangers before spending five years at Dundee and also managed Preston and Motherwell.
AFC Youth Academy director, Gav Levey said: “This event goes beyond competition; it represents the enduring legacy of Craig Brown and his tireless dedication to the development of football in Scotland. Craig’s positive influence on the Scottish game continues to inspire future generations, and the Craig Brown Memorial Trophy embodies his commitment to the sport he loved.
“All at AFC Youth Academy, along with our sponsors, are excited about hosting the tournament and are honoured to have the opportunity pay tribute to Craig Brown’s remarkable career and his lasting impact on all connected with AFC, and also the wider football community. We look forward to welcoming supporters, families, and football enthusiasts to Cormack Park to celebrate this exceptional man and celebrate bright young football talent.”
The Craig Brown Memorial Trophy U14 Tournament will be an all-ticket event and full details will be released in due course.
