Andy Murray has lost out on a place in the French Open final after a marathon five-set defeat to Stan Wawrinka.

The Scot battled for over four hours but was unable to see off the three-time Grand Slam champion on Philippe-Chatrier.

Murray, who was looking for his first win in Paris, went down 7-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-7, 6-1.

In what was a rematch of last year's semi-final, Murray edged a tight first set, coming out on top in a tense tie break.

Wawrinka, who won the tournament in 2015, roared back to level the match before Murray made another break through to go 2-1 ahead.

The Swiss star took it to a decider before dominating the final set, running out a 6-1 winner. He will now face either Rafal Nadal or Dominic Thiem in the final on Sunday, June 11.
