Motherwell failed in a late deadline day bid to sign Nadir Ciftci on loan from Celtic.

The Turkish forward was linked with a return to the Netherlands before the Steelmen made a late move to bring him to Fir Park.

Motherwell were in action on Tuesday night, running out 2-1 winners away to Ross County to move into the Premiership's top six.

Speaking after the clash in Dingwall, Mark McGhee admitted the club had opened talks with Celtic over a move for their out-of-favour attacker.

No deal could be struck before midnight, leaving the 24-year-old with the prospect of seeing little game time over the next six months.

Ciftci has played for Brendan Rodgers' side since July when he turned out in both legs of the Champions League qualifier against Lincoln Red Imps.
