Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has been accused of running Scottish football by former St Mirren chairman Stewart Gilmour.

Gilmour appeared on BBC Sportsound on Wednesday evening, claiming the Celtic chief pulls the strings behind the scenes in his role as a SPFL board member.

When asked who runs the Scottish game Gilmour replied: "You don't need to ask me that. Are you trying to tell me that Peter's not pulling the strings?

"I don't mean any real criticism of Peter. Peter's job is as the chief executive of Celtic, and in terms of that job he does a fantastic job."

The former Buddies chairman criticised the role Lawwell plays as flag bearer for the Scottish game, asking: "Does Peter do a great job for Scottish football?

"How many times are we talking about new TV deals and various other things and trying to promote the game, and what comes out the box again? Us [Celtic] going to England.

"Some of the chairmen that attend the meetings will not take Peter on. I think he's got too much power on other clubs."
