Derek McInnes says Aberdeen's 26-year wait for Scottish Cup glory shows how difficult it is to win the competition.

The Dons face a tricky trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts in the fourth round this weekend.

McInnes urged his players to look at the "big picture" of their involvement in the competition, setting his sights on winning the whole thing.

"In five cup competitions we've managed to get to a final and two other semi-finals, and obviously we feel confident in the cups," he said.

"We know how important it is for every aspect of the club - for the supporters - to have a successful cup run.

"I think you've always got to see the bigger picture in the early rounds. This game has enough on it anyway, but even if you're playing lesser teams you have to see the bigger picture of why you're taking part.

"It's to get that day in the sun at Hampden, to get that medal in the pocket and bring success - thats why were all here."

"The fact that it's been 25 or 26 years [since Aberdeen won the Scottish Cup] suggests how difficult it is, and we've one won it six or seven times in our history - and a lot of good teams have been here.

"It's difficult but its something we're setting out to do."
