Partick Thistle's Abdul Osman admits training in the shadow of the national stadium has fired him up to go on a Scottish Cup run.

The midfielder's side enter the competition on Friday when they travel to Paisley to take on St Mirren in the fourth round of the competition.

Thistle haven't reached the latter stages since the 2007/08 season when they lost to Rangers in a quarter-final replay.

Osman says their daily training sessions at lesser Hampden has left him longing for a crunch cup fixture on the pitch next door.

"It would be very special," he said. "Obviously training at Hampden every day and seeing the unbelievable stadium, it would be good to play in a final.

"I've haven't [played in the stadium] but I have done press in there and I've been on the pitch so it would be special to play on it.

"Last season we played against Inverness and they managed to beat us and get to the final, so if they can do it we feel we can do it.

"I think we're on a par with a lot of teams in this league, on our day we can beat any team, it's not just Inverness alone."

Meanwhile, manager Alan Archibald says that while the club are due a cup run they have to prove they are capable first.

After dropping out to eventual cup winners Inverness last season, he hopes for an easier path to Hampden this year round.

"We've got to earn it," he said. "We can put excuses in there, we've not always had great draws, last year we had two Premier League teams, one went on and won the cup, in Inverness.

"We've got to earn that right and obviously you want a little bit of luck with the draw.

"If you get a home tie, fantastic, and we have a decent tie on Friday night. Albeit St Mirren will be a tough ask, but it's a good surface and there's no excuses with the pitch."
