Rangers have opened talks with Accrington Stanley over a move for duo Josh Windass and Matt Crooks, according to the English League Two club.

Both players are out of contract with the club in the summer, with Mark Warburton hoping to sign the pair on pre-contract agreements.

The Ibrox club would be required to pay training compensation for both players, provided Accrington Stanley have offered the players new deals on the same or better terms than their current contracts.

Clubs must pay training compensation for players under the age 23 who move cross-border.

Accrington Stanley chairman Andy Holt confirmed on Twitter that the Glasgow club has made a move for Windass and Crooks, complaining at the Ibrox side's approach.

Windass - the son of former Hull City forward Dean - in particular has drawn attention from a number of clubs, with Arsenal linked with the promising 21-year-old midfielder.

The two players have scored 18 goals between them for Accrington Stanley this season, with Warburton looking to add further to his squad following the capture of Doncaster Rovers' Harry Forrester and goalkeeper Maciej Gostomski.
