Lawrence Shankland's header secured St Mirren a much-needed 1-0 victory at Morton.

The Buddies had won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions and triumphed thanks to the on-loan striker's close-range effort in the 39th minute.

St Mirren goalkeeper Jamie Langfield had to be alert in the opening period and was relieved to see Thomas O'Ware head just over.

Michael Miller thought he had found a way through midway through the first half only to be called offside - a decision St Mirren swiftly capitalised on through Shankland.

Denny Johnstone's header towards his own goal was clawed away by goalkeeper Derek Gaston but the on-loan Aberdeen striker headed home - a goal which Jack Baird came close to adding to late on.
