Scotland has been braced for travel disruption and flooding with “torrential downpours” forecast to hit parts of the country.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms which is set to come into place on Tuesday from 3pm until 11.59pm.
An additional weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Wednesday from 10am to 7pm.
Tuesday’s warning covers mostly southern and eastern parts of Scotland including Scottish Borders, Midlothian, East Lothian, as well as parts of the Strathclyde region.
Forecasters said that the majorly affected areas could see 20 to 30mm of rain fall over two to three hours.
Some places will see lightning, hail and blustery winds.
The Met Office warned that where flooding and lighting strikes occur there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to rail and bus services.
Additionally, the forecasters warn that some small communities may become cut off by flooded roads.
Wednesday’s warning states that showers will be come heavier and more widespread across the country with the potential of 15-20mm of rain in less than an hour.
The second warning covers central and North East Scotland as well as parts of East Lothian, West Lothian, Midlothian and Edinburgh.
