The STV Children’s Appeal will return to screens on Friday, with long-term host Lorraine Kelly joined by STV’s Laura Boyd.

The inspiring show on November 8 will see Lorraine and Laura joined by Appeal heroes and ambassadors following another incredible year of fundraising.

The pair will highlight the work taking place across Scotland to support children and families who need it most.

The show was filmed at Glasgow Kelvin College’s Springburn Campus, with involvement from their Film Studies students and will be broadcast at 7pm on STV and STV Player.

The Springburn campus is supported by the Appeal to run intergenerational community hubs that benefit children and parents with activities and free evening meals on weekdays.

Speaking on her work with the appeal, Kelly said she was “delighted” to celebrate another year of fundraising.

“Meeting all the lovely folk at the college and getting a feel for the community spirit of Springburn really embodied the essence of the Appeal for me – it’s all about coming together to support each other through the difficult times.

“As ever, we need the generous people of Scotland to tune in and donate, so we can reach even more families and communities that need it most across Scotland”

The STV Trustee went on to urge the people of Scotland to tune in and donate to help the charity reach more families and communities that need it most.

The hosts will also be joined by a slate of famous Scottish faces, including Brian Cox, Marli Sui and Alan Cumming.

Other charities featured in the Appeal show include Leslie Community Pantry, East Lothian Young Carers, and Bairnecessities in North Aberdeenshire.

As part of their latest fundraising adventure, Laura Boyd and Sean Batty also set off in their “Appeal Mobile” to reach as many Scottish monuments as possible within 48 hours.

The show will conclude with a week of programming and content that was launched on November 1 with the documentary The Game Changers, presented by Jean Johansson.

During the documentary, Johansson visited several youth-led businesses across Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Dundee that are making a difference in young people’s lives.

“The opening line of the documentary – we all need someone to believe in us, especially when we’re young – rings very true for myself, and all the young people I had the pleasure of meeting,” the presenter said.

S1 pupils from St Andrews R.C Secondary in Glasgow’s East End also took over as channel announcers, introducing STV shows on-air all week.

Every penny raised on the night remains in Scotland, and 100% of donations go to the young people and families who need it most.

Administration costs are covered by STV and by a portion of The Wood Foundation’s donation to the Appeal.

The Scottish Government has also supported the STV Children’s Appeal since its inception in 2011, providing up to £1m of matched funding annually.

First Minister John Swinney spoke on the importance of initiatives like the STV Children’s Appeal.

He said: “It is of the utmost importance that children and young people are able to access opportunities that give them the best chance of a brighter future.

“Every year, the campaign helps to support thousands of children, young people and families right across the country, in every one of the 32 local authorities, when they need it the most.”

He continued: “I would like to thank people for their generosity, particularly during such challenging times – your donations, no matter how small, go such a long way to supporting children who are the future of Scotland.”

Presenter Laura Boyd added: “I had a brilliant time supporting the Appeal this year, whether that was racing against the clock and going head-to-head in different challenges with Sean, or meeting the wonderful staff and students at Glasgow Kelvin College and learning more about how Appeal funding is helping people thrive across Scotland.

“I hope that everyone tunes in and donates generously to continue the important work of the Appeal.”

The STV Children’s Appeal 2024 airs on Friday, November 8, across STV and STV Player.
