Police have issued a warning about a scam that involves people handing over money and high-value items to a “courier”.

Reports have been made of people being contacted by suspects claiming to be from their bank’s fraud department.

They are informed that their bank cards have been cloned and, to protect their funds, they should visit a nearby bureau de change to buy euros.

Once the money has been withdrawn, they are met by a courier and the funds are handed over.

Officers have warned that the suspects might also ask to purchase high-value items, including mobile phones.

Again, a courier will meet them to collect.

Issuing a warning on social media, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “This is a scam, and people should contact their bank or 101 if similar calls are received.”
