Two arrests have been made after the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old Scottish soldier at an army base in North Yorkshire.

An investigation is under way by the UK Government’s Defence Serious Crime Command (DSCC), with two members of the Armed Forces arrested following the incident at Catterick Garrison.

It is understood that the investigation comes after the alleged assault on a 17-year-old from Fife last week.

It is believed he had been undertaking basic training at the base.

A DSCC spokesperson said: “Two members of the Armed Forces have been arrested following an investigation by the Defence Serious Crime Command.

“As the matter is subject to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment further.”

The DSCC is the strategic command headquarters for the Defence Serious Crime Unit (DSCU) – an independent, professional, and global service police force.

According to the government website, the force has jurisdiction to investigate serious crime alleged to have been committed by persons subject to service law, in the UK and overseas.
