The family of a Scottish actor who appeared in Star Wars have paid tribute following his death at the age of 77.
In a statement on Facebook, Angus MacInnes’ family shared that the actor died “peacefully” on December 23, 2024.
MacInnes’ acting career spanned multiple decades with roles in blockbusters such as Star Wars: A New Hope and Captain Phillips, among many others.
He played Jon “Dutch” Vander in the first Star Wars film, which kicked off the space opera franchise.
MacInnes’ family said: “His work touched countless lives, and he took great pride in being part of these stories that continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.”
The statement added that the actor held Star Wars fans in a “special place in his heart” and loved meeting them at conventions.
“He was continually humbled, delighted, and honoured by the admiration and passion of the fans and convention community,” it read.
The family continued saying Mr MacInnes would be “deeply missed” by his family, friends and actors around the world.
“Angus was more than an actor – he was a kind, thoughtful, and generous soul who brought warmth and humour into the lives of everyone who knew him,” they said.
