Thousands of people across Scotland who care for loves ones will receive an extra payment from Friday.
Those who are getting Carer’s Allowance on the qualifying dates will automatically have the £270.50 supplement deposited into their accounts by Social Security Scotland.
There are an estimated 800,000 unpaid carers in Scotland, including 30,000 under the age of 18, and the payment is in recognition of what they do for those who need them.
People qualify if they were getting the Carer’s Allowance on April 10, 2023, and should have received a letter from Social Security Scotland.
A second supplement is due to be paid in December for those who are still in receipt of the allowance on October 9.
Social Security Scotland will announce the date for the December payment later this year.
If you do not get a letter or payment by June 16, 2023, you can call free on 0800 182 2222.
Some people do not get Carer’s Allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) because they get other benefits instead.
This is called an “underlying entitlement” and those affected will not get Carer’s Allowance Supplement, but they may be entitled to other benefits.
