Tesco pull pasta salad from supermarket shelves over E.coli contamination fears

Tesco has pulled a pasta salad from supermarket shelves over fears the product has been contaminated with E. coli.

The retail giant issued a recall for its Finest Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Orzo Salad 215g, with the use-by dates of August 25 to 27.

The Food Standards Agency said the chilled pasta salad may be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), which can be fatal in some cases.

E.coli can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting and fever. More serious cases can result in kidney failure, resulting in death.

Tesco said customers who have purchased the pasta salad should not eat it and instead return it to Tesco for a full refund.

The recall has also been flagged by the Food Standards Agency, who issued advice for those who might have already eaten the product.

They said: “If you are experiencing symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.”
