Staff at a Scottish food wholesaler, which is contracted by restaurants, prisons and schools, are to be balloted for strike action.
More than 350 Brakes Brothers employees based in the Newhouse area of Motherwell are set to vote on industrial action amid an ongoing pay dispute.
Unite the Union confirmed that members rejected an “unacceptable pay offer” of a 53p-per-hour rise.
The organisation claims workers based at Newhouse are being paid 13.5% less than their counterparts in England.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Brake Brothers has served up a pitiful hourly increase which our members have unanimously rejected.
“It is a very wealthy company, and it needs to put a far better offer on the table.”
A significant proportion of the Brakes Brothers’ work comes from government-based contracts to Scottish prisons, schools and social care homes.
The company told STV News it is “disappointed” with the decision to ballot for strike action and discussions are ongoing ahead of any engagement with the arbitration service, ACAS
A spokesperson said: “Our priority continues to be reaching a resolution that supports our colleagues and provides stability for the depot.
“We believe the above-inflation offer we have proposed is fair and reasonable, and we remain committed to open and constructive dialogue.
“We hope Unite will engage with us in the same spirit, so that together we can achieve a positive and timely outcome for everyone involved.”
