Snow blizzard to hit Scotland as Met Office weather warnings issued

Scotland is to be hit with a snow blizzard as the Met Office issues two weather warnings.

A yellow alert is active from midnight until 3pm on Wednesday for the Grampians, Tayside, Fife, the Highlands, Orkney and Argyll and Bute.

Rain will initially fall as sleet before turning to snow with accumulations of up to 20cm expected.

Strong winds will lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow, especially in the north.

Disruption is expected on roads and railways due to the condition.

A second weather warning for snow has been issued on the Shetland Islands from 6pm on Tuesday until 11.59pm on Wednesday.

Persistent snowfall is expected in the region with accumulations of up to 10cm.

Road and bus services are expected to be impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

• Fife
• Perth and Kinross
• Stirling
• Aberdeen
• Aberdeenshire
• Moray
• Highland
• Orkney Islands
• Argyll and Bute
