ScotRail staff were surprised to find an extra item of baggage onboard one of their services, after a kitten was discovered on a train.
The “frightened” kitten, with grey stripes and white socks, was discovered by staff onboard Thursday morning’s 8.25am service from Helensburgh Central to Edinburgh Waverley.
It is thought the female cat may have been left behind by accident.
She has now been taken into the care of Cats Protection in Glasgow, who are appealing for her owner to get in touch.
ScotRailShe is described as being around six months old and is not microchipped.
Staff say she is a “little scared” but is safe in their care.
The charity said: “Understandably, she is a little scared at the moment, but she is safely in our care and will be looked after and given time to decompress.
“She’s already made grown men cry at the railway station; she’s a very pretty little girl.”
Cats ProtectionThe owner is asked to contact the Glasgow branch to discuss the situation and provide proof of ownership.
The kitten will remain in the care of the charity until the owner comes forward or until she goes through veterinary checks and is ready for adoption.
