Dundee United’s appeal against the red card shown to Ryan Edwards in their defeat to Hearts has been dismissed by the SFA.

The defender was shown a red card for a tackle on Andy Halliday during the first half of the 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle at the weekend when United were 1-0 up.

An appeal was launched against the decision on Monday but the governing body has now confirmed the red card and ban will stand.

Edwards will now miss the next two games including Saturday’s Scottish Cup game against Kilmarnock.

The Tannadice club released a statement confirming the decision on Wednesday.

It said: “Dundee United can confirm the appeal against the red card shown to Ryan Edwards during Saturday’s cinch Premiership match against Heart of Midlothian has been dismissed.

“The defender will serve a two-match suspension, which includes this weekend’s clash with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup.

“The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Dundee United are currently rock bottom of the Premiership and will take on St Johnstone on their return to league action on February 18.
