After hitting 25-26C widely in the Highlands on Saturday temperatures have moderated a little, settling back to the high teens and low 20s across the country this week.
The big question is when will we reach 25C again?
On Thursday, Moray and the north Highlands will enjoy clear blue skies and tops around the mid-20s making it feel hot out there with the light winds and high levels of UV.
The highest temperatures will transfer to Glasgow and Ayrshire on Saturday with highs of 21-23C, but what about the weather? There will be a few showers in central and western Scotland on Thursday, more on Friday, but by the weekend those should be easing away with a lot of dry weather with warm sunny spells.
For those venturing into the hills there could be a few heavy showers that develop across the southern Grampians on Saturday.
Next week should see similar conditions with some showers, but still spells of warm sunshine with temperatures again into the low 20s. The far north west, which will be on the edge of any high pressure that builds, will potentially see some weak weather fronts bringing more prolonged spells of light rain.
Computer models indicate a slight downward trend in temperatures towards the end of the month with more showery conditions, although there’s a lot of ‘scatter’ by May 25 which points to very little confidence in any longer term outlook. This is why seasonal forecasts are very tricky with no detail and there’s no point at this stage trying to have a go at what June may have in store for us.
It should also be noted that we’re only about five weeks away from the summer solstice, when the sun reaches its strongest point, meaning UV levels are heightened and burn time is down to about half an hour – so make sure you have SPF on if you work outside or are simply out enjoying the better weather.
