The SQA has confirmed that students across Scotland could face longer waits for their exam results amid “widespread disruption” caused by Storm Floris.

Deliveries to pupils in the Outer Hebrides, Orkney, and Shetland will be delayed due to the “adverse weather”.

Delays to the delivery of results in other areas may occur at short notice.

Candidates impacted by the storm delays have been urged to contact their college or school.

An SQA spokesperson said: “Due to the widespread disruption caused by Storm Floris, Royal Mail has confirmed that there will be delays to the delivery of SQA results in several parts of Scotland.

“In particular, we know deliveries to the Outer Hebrides, Orkney, and Shetland will be delayed due to the adverse weather. Further localised delays to deliveries may occur at short notice.

“If any affected candidates wish to know their results, they should contact their school or college in the first instance who should be able to help them. Alternatively, learners can submit an enquiry via our website at https://www.sqa.org.uk/learnerenquiry and their query will be responded to by our team after 12pm on Tuesday August 5.

“We are not anticipating any impact on the MySQA text and email service.”

An amber warning for “unseasonably” strong winds has been issued for much of the country, lasting from 10am until 11pm.

A second yellow alert, covering the whole of Scotland, will be in place until midnight.

A third yellow weather warning will come into force at midnight, covering Orkney and Shetland until 8am on Tuesday.

Storm Floris will bring gusts of 50 to 70mph which could reach 80 to 90mph on some exposed coasts, hills, and bridges.

Heavy rain is also forecast for some areas, and gusts could reach 90mph in exposed spots.

The Met Office has urged the public to stay indoors “as much as possible” with high winds creating a risk of injury.
