A Scottish man has been jailed in England in connection with a sexual assault that occurred 26 years ago.

Geoffrey Robinson, from Annan, was sentenced to 12 years in jail after being found guilty of sexual assault on a teenager in Bradford in 1996.

He was also found guilty on allegations of attempted rape and threats to kill, police said.

The 63-year-old will have to serve a minimum of eight years.

Detective inspector Jodie Hayes of Bradford’s District Safeguarding said: “Robinson has been given a significant sentence for his abhorrent crimes against a child.

“I welcome the sentence as it reflects the seriousness of his actions which happened decades ago.

“I would like to praise the bravery of the victim for coming forward and giving evidence through the trial. I hope this sentence can give the victim closure and justice.

“Bradford Safeguarding Unit take all reports of sexual offences whether recent of non-recent extremely seriously and with the upmost sensitivity and confidentiality.

“We will thoroughly investigate any reports and bring those responsible to justice.”
