Scottish crime boss Steven Lyons has arrived in Spain after he lost a bid to prevent his extradition following a hearing in a Dutch court.
The 45-year-old has been held in Amsterdam since he was deported from Indonesia, where was arrested on arrival in Bali in March, following a major international police operation to take down a global crime syndicate.
The Spanish Guardia Civil said Lyons is wanted for drug trafficking, money laundering, and his alleged involvement in a murder in Spain in 2024.
In a video posted by the police authority, Lyons is seen being escorted off a flight from Amsterdam on the runway at Madrid’s Barajas Airport by officers before he is placed into the back of a police van.
Lyons is believed to be the head of the notorious Lyons crime family based in Glasgow, which detectives say has played a significant role in the funnelling of drugs into Scotland, money laundering and outbursts of violence throughout Europe for decades.
It is expected that Lyons will appear before a judge in Madrid before he is taken to a jail in Andalusia.
