ScotRail will trial a new ticket machine which can be used ‘by two customers at one time’.

The new ticket vending machine, called ‘Smart Kiosks’, will be introduced on a trial basis in stations across Scotland.

The new machines can be used by two customers at the same time, with one main screen providing ticket vending and information, while a second screen to the side allows the loading of tickets onto Smartcards.

Customers are being encouraged to use the existing kiosk at Glasgow Central station and be in with the chance of winning a return ticket to anywhere across the network.

The option to plan journeys and choose a seat preference, as well as purchase tickets for the day of travel, will also be a feature of the new machines.

The Smart Kiosk user interface can be changed by each customer, allowing the navigation screen to adapt to be “more accessible for all users”, ScotRail said.

New paper tickets featuring QR barcodes will be dispensed from the kiosks in line with industry standards.

Claire Dickie, ScotRail commercial director, said: “ScotRail is pleased to be able to trial the new Smart Kiosk, offering more advanced ticket options and information for our customers.

“Any feedback received can help ScotRail develop an even better journey experience across the network.”
