Scots independent co-operative, Scotmid, has announced it has acquired Fosters Funeral Directors for an “undisclosed sum”.
The acquisition brings Scotmid’s portfolio of funeral homes to 40 with sites across the central belt of Scotland.
Fosters Funeral Directors, which was established in 2011 by Tony Foster, operates from its head office in Glasgow and employs around 80 members of staff.
Karen Scott, chief executive of Scotmid Co-operative said the “exciting” acquisition is in line with their plans to grow the company’s funeral business.
“The Fosters business is a great fit geographically extending our branch network further west and bringing with it some very experienced people in the funeral sector,” she said.
Nick McLaughlin, managing director of Fosters, said that combining the “well-respected” brands will elevate funeral standards across Scotland.
“Customers can continue to expect a seamless, caring, and empathetic experience only made better by the unique values and principles of Scotland’s largest independent co-operative,” he said.
Karen Scott paid tribute to John Brodie who recently retired as CEO and led the transaction on behalf of Scotmid, saying John leaves the company with a funeral business that is now “much larger and geographically diverse”.
