Scotland reports no new coronavirus deaths in last 24 hours

It is the first time since March 20 the country has reported zero deaths of people with Covid-19.

The Scottish Government has reported no new deaths of people with coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

It means the country’s official death toll stays at 2415, however, adding suspected cases the most up-to-date figure is 3964.

There has typically been under-reporting of Covid-19 deaths at weekends.

But it is the first time there have been no new coronavirus deaths in Scotland since March 20, three days before lockdown began.

However, speaking at the Scottish Government’s Sunday briefing, health secretary Jeane Freeman sounded a “note of caution about reading too much into today’s figures”.

She said it is “still very likely” more Covid-19 deaths will be confirmed in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus has risen to 15,621.

That’s an increase of 18 on the day before, but the fifth day in a row new cases have been under 50.

A total of 1002 people are in Scottish hospitals with confirmed or suspected coronavirus, a fall of 17 in the past 24 hours.

Of those, 25 are being treated in intensive care, a rise of five.

A total of 3801 people who were hospitalised with Covid-19 have been able to go home since the pandemic began.
