Scotland recorded both the hottest and coldest temperatures in the UK on Wednesday.
Scots were treated to a taste of summer on Wednesday as temperatures soared, reaching highs of 25.5C.
However, the surprisingly warm temperatures were short-lived as they then plummeted below freezing in some parts of the country.
The swing in conditions saw Scotland record both the highest and lowest temperatures of the day across the whole of the UK.
Aboyne’s temperatures saw a huge contrast as it dropped to a low of -0.2C overnight after reaching highs of 24.2C during the day.
Braemar also dropped to freezing and Balmoral dropped to 0.5C.
As for what’s to come, STV weather presenter Philip Petrie said conditions in Scotland are set to stay “fairly settled” for the next day or so before turning gradually turning cooler and cloudier.
Insight Philip Petrie STV weather presenter
Yesterday Scotland recorded the highest and lowest temperatures of the day across the whole of the UK. During the day we reached a high of 25.5C in both Aviemore and Kinlochewe, but other areas also climbed into the 20s with Altnaharra recording a high of 25.1C and Aboyne seeing 24C.
Overnight though we saw a huge swing and Aboyne dropped to a low of -0.2C, a drop of 24.2C from its daytime high. Braemar dropped to freezing and Balmoral dropped to 0.5C.
Things will stay fairly settled over the next 24 to 48 hours as high pressure remains dominant over our weather. Most of the bad weather is affecting the south of the UK and in particular the south of England. However gradually things will turn cloudier and cooler as we head towards the weekend and by the start of next week we return to a typical westerly flow allowing low pressure to take charge.
