Scotland has recorded 34 deaths and 2693 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Official statistics indicate that as of Thursday, 983 people were in hospital, with 65 people in intensive care.

Of the 40,540 new tests for Covid-19 that reported results, 7.2% of those were positive.

Around 4.1 million people in Scotland have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with around 3.8 million having received their second dose.

The latest figures come on the day that the Scottish Government’s Covid certification scheme was introduced.

The scheme came into effect at 5am on Friday, with proof of double vaccination now being required if a person is seeking to enter a nightclub, or to attend large events.

However, the NHS Scotland Covid Status app was beset by technical problems after it was released on Thursday afternoon.

The Scottish Government apologised for the delays faced by people trying to access the app, and explained that the capacity of the NHS systems behind the app had been increased to cope with the high demand.
