A Scotland fan in Boston was forced to call 911 after a woman rammed her car into his hotel and started firing a gun.

Stuart Mackelvie, from Fife, was staying at the Sturbridge Plaza Hotel ahead of Scotland’s World Cup match against Morocco at Boston Stadium on Friday when the incident unfolded.

Speaking to WBZ News Boston, he said he was forced to call 911 at around 12.55am on Friday, local time, after a SUV was driven into the building and gunshots were fired.

“A lady had driven her SUV into the side of the hotel,” he said, speaking to the American TV news channel.

“And then she jumped out and was shouting ‘where are you, where are you’, and then shot three times quickly at what seemed to be into the hotel room.

“Then I heard smashed glass, and I think she maybe climbed into the room, and then there was loads of banging and stuff like she was trying to break a door down or something.

“Then I called 911, and I think they had already been called as they arrived one minute later.”

It has been reported by CBS News Boston that the woman fired a weapon inside the lobby, injuring one person with a wound to the torso. He is in a critical but stable condition.

It is also understood that the woman, who was found to be eight months pregnant, took her own life.

“Preliminary information in this case indicates that the suspect drove to the hotel in an attempt to find two people that they knew,” Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said at a news conference.

“A couple of commands were given by police that were very, very fast, ‘put down the gun, put down the gun’.

“The suspect died despite extreme life-saving measures taken by first responders. They did not find out she was pregnant until about 20 or 30 minutes after.”
