Ryanair has said its flights to and from Spain are “operating normally” as other airlines cancelled services to the country.

The airline’s stance comes after the Foreign Office advised against all non-essential travel there, including to the Balearic and Canary islands.

Those returning to Scotland – and the rest of the United Kingdom – have been told they need to self-isolate for a fortnight.

Jet2 has suspended its flights and holiday programme to Spanish destinations from Tuesday, July 28, up to and including Sunday, August 16.

Customers were also warned to not go to the airport on Tuesday if they were due to fly to the Balearic and Canary Islands.

TUI had already cancelled holidays to mainland Spain up to and including Sunday, August 9. It has now cancelled holidays to the Balearic and Canary islands until Friday.

However, Ryanair tweeted: “Our schedules between UK – Spain are operating normally”.

On Saturday it was announced those returning to Scotland from Spain must once again quarantine for 14 days following a spike in coronavirus cases.

The Scottish Government reimposed restrictions, which had only just been lifted from Thursday, after the latest data provided “cause for concern”.

The decision, also made by the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland and Wales as well as the UK Government, aims to reduce the risk of the transmission of the virus from people travelling.
