Drivers on the M8 are facing disruption during rush hour on Wednesday after debris fell onto the motorway.

Traffic is building near junction 25 in Glasgow’s south west after emergency services closed the westbound off-slip there.

Motorists using the road are urged to find an alternative route.

“The M8 westbound Junction 25 exit slip to the A739 Clyde Tunnel is currently closed to allow for an emergency bridge inspection,” Traffic Scotland said in an update.

“Motorists are advised to use an alternative route and should expect longer than normal journey times.”

Drivers could further disruption on Wednesday as a yellow warning for rain comes into force across the country from 9am.

The Met Office alert, which will end at 3p on Thursday, could see gusts of up to 60mph alongside 150mm of rainfall in just 24 hours.

Areas affected by heavy rain – including Glasgow, Ayrshire and other places in western Scotland – are likely to see 75-100mm of rainfall over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, though more is forecast over higher ground.

This could cause difficult driving conditions, travel disruption, and flooding in places.
