Two men have been arrested and charged after police discovered £50,000 worth of cannabis during a routine stop on a major motorway.

Officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf on the A74M near Lockerbie on Friday, September 16 at around 6.40pm.

Within the car, halted close to Junction 17, police made the discovery of cannabis.

The two men, aged 25 and 31, were arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.

They are expected to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Saturday, September 17.

Sergeant Lloyd Caven, from the Lockerbie Road Policing Unit, said: “This recovery, and the good work from officers, shows that we will use every tool and tactic at our disposal to remove illegal drugs from our communities.
