Emergency services attended only a “couple of isolated incidents”, including an attack on an officer and a serious assault, as fans celebrated Scotland’s return to the World Cup.
Pubs across the country were granted extended licenses as supporters watched Steve Clarke’s men return to the global stage for the first time in 28 years, with a 1-0 win over Haiti.
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston praised the majority of fans who were in “good spirits” and acted in a “responsible manner”.
Police were called to a disturbance in Inverness, during which an officer was attacked, but they did not require medical treatment.
A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection.
In Glasgow, a 37-year-old man was seriously assaulted at around 3.40am on Main Street.
No arrests have been made in connection and an investigation.
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston added: “I want to recognise the conduct of football fans across the country following Scotland’s opening World Cup match.
“In the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026, fans zones across the country welcomed supporters, with many establishments receiving extended licences. Police Scotland liaised with organisers in advance to help deliver a safe and secure environment for all to enjoy the occasion.
“Officers were deployed across Scotland as part of our proportionate policing plan and I’m delighted to say most reported fans in good spirits, conducting themselves in a responsible manner, with only a couple of isolated incidents requiring our involvement.”
