Crumpets sold in one of the UK’s biggest supermarkets have been recalled over fears they may contain pieces of metal.

A “do not eat warning” has been issued by Rathbones Kear via the Food Standards Agency (FSA) over packs of Morrisons crumpets.

The brands affected by the recall notice also include Morrisons’ The Best with Sourdough and Savers brands as well as Hovis Crumpets.

The packs of six dated August 6 and 7 have been deemed unsafe to eat due to the possible presence of metal.

Customers are being urged not to eat the products and return them to the store they were purchased from for a full refund.

A statement from Rathbones Kear said: “Rathbones Kear is recalling the above product with a best before date of August 6 and 7, because there is a risk that some packs may contain small pieces of metal.

“No other products are affected by this issue.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”
