More than 100 train services have been cancelled as ScotRail continues to be hit by staff absences due to Covid.

As Scots prepare to travel over the festive period, the rail operator urged customers to check their journey before setting off.

On Tuesday, the ScotRail website said 134 services had been cancelled, with many due to staff members forced to self-isolate.

Key commuter services between Glasgow and Edinburgh have been affected by the cancellations.

A further 51 services have seen the number of carriages reduced, with some reduced from as many as eight to four.

Customers have been advised that due to social distancing, that they may wish to travel on an alternative service.

In a tweet, ScotRail said: “I’m afraid that our services are still being disrupted due to increasing numbers of staff having to self-isolate due to Covid-19.

“If you’re travelling in the next 24 hours, please check your journey before setting off.”
