Parts of Scotland are set to be hit with heavy winds, snow and ice as the wintry conditions continue in northern parts of the country.

Yellow weather warnings have been put in place from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.

The Northern Isles will be the first area affected with with heavy gales expected from 4pm.

A warning for wind will be active until 2am with gusts of 60-70mph possible.

Then from midnight north east areas and parts of the Highlands will experience snow and ice until around 10am on Friday.

Aberdeen, Inverness and Thurso will be among the worst affected areas with disruptions to roads and rail routes expected.

The Met Office has also warned that icy surfaces could cause injuries to pedestrians and cyclists.
