A yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place for much of the country on Friday, as Arctic air brings freezing conditions across Scotland.
The Met Office alert, which came into force at 4pm on Thursday, will remain in place until midday on Friday and covers the majority of the country.
Snow showers were expected to fall overnight, with some areas experiencing around 1-2cm of snow, rising to 5cm on higher hills and 10cm locally.
It comes after warnings of rain which led to flooding in parts of western Scotland and in the east from Aberdeenshire down to Fife on Wednesday.
The forecaster warned temperatures could plummet suddenly, which could lead to ice on untreated roads.
Transport Scotland said snowy conditions on the A720 City Bypass caused some congestion and queues on Friday morning.
Drivers have been warned to expect disruption on the roads, while public transport could be affected.
ScotRail has urged commuters and passengers to take care on platforms as surfaces could be slippy.
