A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and flooding has been issued for parts of Scotland.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms with alerts coming into place at midnight on Monday and expiring at 11.59pm.

This is the second warning to hit Scotland after another was issued from 4am on Sunday until 9pm.

The Met Office has warned there could be chance of flooding and power outages in some areas.

The warning added there is a “small chance” that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

In addition to the previously affected areas, parts of East Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Tayside, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Fife, Perth and Kinross, Angus, Stirling and Moray will be affected by Monday’s warning.

Along with heavy rain and a possible thunderstorm, some public transport could be disrupted or cancelled.

Insight Jo Farrow Weather forecaster

Weather forecaster Jo Farrow said: “After Saturday’s clear blue skies and sunshine, Sunday has brought a change in the weather with cloudy skies and more of a breeze.

“The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across Britain with the threat of heavy downpours, even thunderstorms. Warm and humid air is being drawn northwards so it will feel close and muggy overnight, and on Monday.

“There will be plenty of low cloud and mistiness with outbreaks of rain. These will be heavy and slow-moving but some areas will miss the showers.

“The warning area extends into northeastern Scotland on Monday as pulses of heavy rain continue to feed up from the south and an Atlantic weather front joins from the west.

“There is the risk of localised flooding and lightning at times with the main area of rain clearing away from Aberdeenshire and the Northern Isles on Monday night.
