A Scotland fan is “praying for a miracle” after losing the kilt he wore during an epic 3,500-mile trek across the US for charity.
Craig Ferguson completed his mammoth walk from Los Angeles to Boston Common on Friday, having started in February, to raise £1m for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).
During the gruelling trek, the 22-year-old donned a rare kilt, of which there are only two in the world.
On Tuesday, he took to social media to reveal some “very bad news” – the kilt was misplaced by his mum in New York and has been lost.
SuppliedTaking to Instagram, he said: “I have some very, very, bad news and I need you guys’ help. For those who are new here, I’ve recently become the first man in history to walk the entire USA from LA to Boston while wearing a kilt.
“But the sad news is that kilt no longer belongs to me. In a state of panic, my mum was trying to navigate New York and the case has gone missing that contained my kilt, as well as some other stuff.
“She’s all good, which is the main thing, but yeah, the kilt is gone. It belongs to the US now unless some miracle means we can get it back. The only thing is that there are only two of these kilts made in the entire world.
“This kilt has a very distinguishable rip in it from wearing all my stars, and it’ll have loads of holes from the kiltpins, and it’s bogging because I was wearing it so much.”
Despite conceding that the kilt now “belongs to the US”, Craig admitted he is hoping for a “miracle” and has launched an appeal to social media.
Craig said the suitcase was last seen on the platform of 175th Street Station in New York, on the A-line towards Penn Station, between 7pm and 7.45pm on Monday.
“I don’t think I’m ever, ever going to find the kilt. I’ve basically said goodbye to it in my head now,” he added. “The kilt belongs to the US now, but I think there’s maybe something a bit poetic about that.
“But who knows? Maybe social media will do its thing, and some New Yorker will find that kilt and be able to return it one day. But until then, USA kilt, goodbye my friend.”
