Rail passengers are being told to expect “extremely long queues” at stations due to a very limited ScotRail service to and from The Open Championship.

The final day of the golf tournament in St Andrews is taking place on Sunday.

However, due to driver shortages, a temporary timetable is currently in place for all services.

Those travelling to and from The Open are being told by the train operator to consider alternative travel options.

ScotRail has also stated that industrial action by Network Rail signalling staff is possible in the coming weeks.

The company said the strike action is likely to affect many ScotRail services, as well as other train operating companies.

Earlier on Friday, ScotRail announced that its services will return to normal next week.

It comes after its long-running pay dispute with drivers came to an end.

Hundreds of rail services will be reinstated across the country on Wednesday, bringing the number of services back to early May 2022 levels.
