Lewis Capaldi was forced to stop his gig in Newcastle twice due to medical emergencies after fans reported overcrowding.

The Scots pop star, who has hits such as Someone You Loved and Before You Go, was playing at the In the Park event in Exhibition Park on Tuesday evening.

Lewis had to stop the gig twice due to suspected medical emergencies in the crowd as temperatures reached highs of 27C in the area.

Festivalgoers reported that the event was “far too overcrowded” and that the medical incidents took place at the front near the barriers.

Capaldi and his band left the stage, and a message appeared on the screen thanking fans for their patience during the stoppage.

One ticket holder said on social media: “Lewis Capaldi Newcastle was handled horrifically. The event was far too overcrowded – we were all basically stood on top of each other and some people couldn’t even be in front of the stage.

“The security was horrific. Bag checks were not completed properly. The security were more bothered about taking selfies and videos of themselves. There was no security on the side of the field to assist anyone.

“Lewis Capaldi stopped the event twice due to medical emergencies/injury. I believe this was due to a mix of overcrowding and heat. But because of the overcrowding, it took security ages to reach anyone.

“Lewis was off the stage for around 45 minutes due to this and cut his set.”

Another added: “Disappointed with the event organisers for Lewis Capaldi’s show tonight in Newcastle. Venue far too small for tickets sold, overcrowded, food vendors in stupid spot, show stopped twice due to medical incidents at the front from the overcrowding.”

Another said: “Over £180 spent for the wife and me to have a view of a tree at Lewis Capaldi in Newcastle tonight.

“Show stopped multiple times because it was far too overcrowded. Crowd pushed all the way to the entrance. Staff more bothered about getting videos of themselves there than helping.”

The West Lothian singer will headline Hyde Park festival this weekend in London.

The event’s organisers and Ticketmaster UK have been contacted for comment.
