Kind-hearted Scot living in US gives away World Cup ticket for free to scammed Tartan Army fan

A kind-hearted Scot, living in the US, gave away his ticket to the World Cup for free to a Tartan Army fan who had been scammed out of his.

A fundraiser has been started for John MacLean, who gave away his gold dust ticket worth nearly £900 to Scotland vs Haiti on Sunday to a Tartan Army foot soldier who had been scammed.

Mr MacLean, a Scot who has been living in the US for 16 years, was looking to sell the ticket but instead decided to give it away for nothing after hearing the Scotland fan’s story.

Greig McBride said it was one of his brother’s friends, named Jack, who received the incredible act of kindness from Mr MacLean despite not knowing him.

To thank him, a fundraiser has been launched for Mr MacLean to give something back. Around £1,500 has already been raised.

Scotland sealed their first win at a World Cup since 1990 with a goal from John McGinn to top Group C.

A post by Mr McBride on GoFundMe read: “I’ve started this GoFundMe for John MacLean, who, out of the goodness of his heart, gave away his $1,200 ticket for the Scotland vs Haiti World Cup match to one of my little brother’s friends after he was scammed out of a ticket.

“John’s incredible act of kindness meant that a young Scotland fan still got to experience a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

“It would be amazing if we could give something back to John and show our appreciation for his generosity.

“Please share this far and wide, and if you’re able to contribute, every donation is greatly appreciated. Let’s repay a little of the kindness that John showed to someone else.”
