Police say the family of Irvine Wallace have been informed following discovery in Dumfries on Wednesday morning.

Human remains discovered inside a burning vehicle in Dumfries and Galloway have been identified as a local man.

Officers said on Friday the family of Irvine Wallace, 64, had been informed following the discovery in the Lincluden area of Dumfries at around 8.15am on Wednesday.

Formal identification is still to take place.

Emergency services attended the scene on Wednesday and discoverd human remains within a grey-coloured Vauxhall Insignia after extinguishing the blaze.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem but there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective inspector Craig Nicolson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Irvine Wallace at this time and we ask that you respect their privacy.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to get in touch.”
