Homes and businesses remain without water supply for a fourth consecutive day after a fault at a treatment works affected customers across southern Scotland.
People in parts of the Borders were advised not to drink tap water after damage was found to a pipe at Rawburn Water Treatment Works on Tuesday.
Around 6,000 properties were initially affected, and normal supplies were restored to 4,200 properties in the affected area on Thursday.
A further 1,800 properties were expected to be restored by Friday morning in areas such as Duns, Eccles, Coldingham, Chirnside, Paxton, Coldstream, Burnmouth, Lamberton and Drone Hill.
Scottish Water said it “fully appreciates the inconvenience this disruption is still causing to some affected properties”.
John Griffen, water operations general manager, said: “We are pleased to have restored normal supplies for the majority of the affected properties and will continue to work to do likewise for those still affected. We are focusing all of our efforts on the areas where there are still properties without water.
”We would again like to apologise to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience and understanding as we work to resolve the matter for all properties.”
