Four deaths and 2167 new Covid cases recorded overnight

The death toll under the daily measure now stands at 7696 as the test positivity rate jumped to 9.1%.

Scotland has recorded four new coronavirus deaths and 2167 new cases in the past 24 hours, according to latest figures.

It means the death toll under this daily measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is now 7696.

The daily test positivity rate has jumped to 9.1%, up from 7.2% the previous day, according to figures published by the Scottish Government on Tuesday.

Public Health Scotland said there were approximately 15 additional cases in NHS Grampian due to delayed reporting.

The 2167 cases recorded in Scotland in the past 24 hours marks the highest daily figure since January 8, according to statistics.

On that occasion the Scottish Government figures show there were 2309 new cases reported that day, with 2160 a week later on January 15.

The day with the highest number of cases in Scotland came on January 7 when 2649 people had tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile there were 171 people in hospital on Monday with recently confirmed Covid-19, and 18 people in intensive care.

So far 3,664,571 people have received the first dose of a Covid vaccination and 2,602,753 have received their second dose.
