Nicola Sturgeon has revealed the cover and title of her upcoming memoir, which promises to offer an “open, honest and candid” account of the former first minister’s “achievements” and “heartbreaks”.
In a video posted on Instagram, Sturgeon revealed the cover for Frankly, which shows the SNP MSP looking towards a window.
The title may be a nod to the former first ministers close friendship with late comedian Janey Godley, who made comedy voiceover videos of Sturgeon during the coronavirus pandemic which featured the phrase “Frank, get the door”.
The memoir, which Sturgeon said she “poured her heart into”, will cover “extraordinary events”, “colourful characters” and “incredible experiences”.
The announcement follows Sturgeon’s decision not to seek re-election as an MSP at next year’s Holyrood election, ending a two-decade career as SNP politician.
Frankly will be published on August 14.
In an Instagram video, Sturgeon said: “I am thrilled to share with you the cover and title of my memoir, which will be published on August 14.
“I have poured my heart into this book. It tells the story of my personal journey, it recounts the extraordinary events that I have been privileged to live and to lead through. It takes you behind the scenes of the incredible experiences I’ve had along the way, and my interactions with some colourful characters.
“The title sums up what the book is – open, honest, candid – about my mistakes and my heartbreaks as well as my triumphs and achievements.
“So here it is – Frankly.
“I can’t wait for you to read it.”
Last week, the ex-SNP leader announced she would not be seeking re-election next year.
The 54-year-old said that “in her heart”, she knew it the “time was right to open a new chapter” in her life.
Sturgeon was a list MSP for the Glasgow region following the formation of Scottish Parliament in 1999 and has served as the MSP for Glasgow Southside constituency since 2007.
