The Met Office has named the first storm of the season as winds up to 80mph are set to batter Scotland.
Storm Eowyn is the fifth named storm of the season and comes with a name JRR Tolkien fans may be familiar with.
The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for wind, the first of which came into effect at midnight on Friday.
Storm Eowyn’s arrival is forecast to bring widespread travel disruption and a danger to life due to flying debris.
Since ‘Name our Storms’ was first launched in 2015 by the Met Office, there has been a new list of names curated for each season.
The list runs from early September to late August the following year, coinciding with the start and end of autumn.
The list includes names from all over, and multiple weather services came together to create it.
Storm Eowyn got its name after the Dutch weather forecasting service held a public event where people could submit suggestions.
While the Met Office said this wasn’t the reason the name was chosen, die-hard Tolkien fans will instantly recognise it.
In Tolkien’s famed LOTR book series, Eowyn is a noblewoman of Rohan and niece of King Theoden of Rohan known for her fierce determination and courage.
She is a shieldmaiden who famously rides into battle with Merry Brandybuck and kills the Witch-King of Angmar.
Eowyn is not the first storm to carry the same name as a Tolkien character, with Storm Arwen hitting the UK in November 2021.
Arwen is an Elvish princess in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, played by Liv Tyler in the film adaptations.
The character plays a pivotal role in Aragorn, who she eventually marries, to becoming King of both Arnor and Gondor.
