Scotland is being braced for another day of disruption as a yellow weather warning for snow and ice continues.

The Met Office has warned that large parts of the country will experience rain, sleet, and snow showers, which are likely to cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.

The warning for wintry weather will remain in place throughout the evening until 12pm on Wednesday and covers Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, the Highlands, Orkney and Shetland, Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire and Argyll and Bute.

Sleet and snow showers are expected to continue for the rest of Tuesday, with between 2-5cm of snowfall in some places.

ScotRail has warned that some service may be disrupted due to the extreme cold weather and have urged passengers to watch their footing while travelling.

On Tuesday, more than 40 schools were closed, and transport was cancelled in the north of the country due to poor road conditions.

At Aberdeen Airport, all flights were suspended on Tuesday morning as passengers faced a second day of disruption after issues with de-icing planes arose on Monday.

The airport said operations resumed shortly after 10am.

“We advise passengers to continue to check the status of their flight with their airline and to take extra care when travelling to the airport,” a spokesperson said.

Passengers faced further disruption, with services to destinations such as Bergen, Amsterdam, and London being cancelled.

Customers flying with airlines such as British Airways, KLM and Loganair were among those facing disruption.

Snow gates at Braemar, Glenshee, Bridge of Dye and Cock Bridge were also closed on Tuesday, said Traffic Scotland.

According to BEAR Scotland, gritters were also out in force on trunk roads across the country.
